OLIVVER

It's currently 10:31 PM. Not that late but late enough on a weekday for my busy self to be yearning for sleep. But instead, I'm lying in bed, lights off, computer screen on, listening to someone magical.

Olivver.

I hope you know who Olivver is. If you don't, you do now. He is Bryan Sammis. A true artist. A true poet. And a true, honest human, flaws and all.

I'm not going to bother talking about his past because who he is now is what matters. In an industry that, in some cases, forces and molds musicians into some kind of worse version of themselves, this guy keeps it entirely authentic. Opinions? Yeah, he has them. He has a lot of them. Best part? He voices them and doesn't hold back in some fantasy world where everything is fine and dandy. As a young person, it's refreshing to have a presence like him, perhaps subconsciously encouraging others to be uninhibited in giving their whole self to who and what is around them. He has something incredible to offer this world and so do the rest of us.

This mindset is oh so evident in his music. In the few tracks that he has released in the last 4 months, listeners get a free pass into the mind of Olivver-- including its darkest and most tortured corners. It's easy to get lost in his creations. I'm not sure if Bryan Sammis is a poet first and then a musician, or the other way around, but either way his lyrics crawl under your skin and haunt you (in the best way possible). And when he released the song "Purge" with a music video, I realized that he just got it

By "it" I mean life. The good, the bad, the ugly, and the astonishingly beautiful. That's what music is supposed to do. It's supposed to make you wonder, to make you heal, and to make you feel like you can take on the world just because you're you. Bryan Sammis isn't afraid to share his demons with his dedicated and growing audience. To leave oneself so vulnerable to criticism of something so personal to you is the most admirable things any artist will ever learn to do.

I had intended this to be a music review but I guess it became a sort of commendation for Bryan Sammis as a human being. Whatever. He deserves it. And you all deserve to know who he is. Please listen to his music. Please let me know what you think. Please let him know what you think. I'm sure he'll appreciate it because that's just who Olivver seems to be.
