A name commonly dropped on any high-end carpet or party, Badgley Mischka is a label that has proved its worthiness from season to season. On the brand’s website in the section which they showcase certain celebrities wearing their clothes, they include Giuliana Rancic, Oprah Winfrey, and Christina Hendricks. To me, this means that this brand knows how to dress every body type. This is probably directly related to its longevity, so let’s take a look at their Fall 2014 trends and see how we can incorporate them in our lives.
1. CHEETAH PRINTS
Cheetah print is a love or hate print. It is often associated with cougars (the mum kind) and reserved only for women blessed with the picture perfect hourglass figure (think Sofia Vergara in Modern Family). But, I say no more! I say that us flat chested, non-Kardashian booty can rock the print as well!
How you can rock it: Hints and touches are great for every day life. A nice blazer (like the one on the right) with some black skinnies or a skirt with a white, loose blouse tucked into it will work great!
2. PLAID
I know, I’ve stitched together two photos instead of three, but as a Canadian girl, I see plaid and I must write about it. Plaid, in my opinion, is an absolute must for fall, no matter who you are (guys, take note on that).
How you can rock it: I’m personally a fan of the plaid button up with jeans and tall boots, but if you feel like dressing it up a bit more I am definitely digging the idea of a nice plaid skirt this fall.
3. TEXTURED FLORALS
This really reminds me of my nana, and I mean that in the nicest way possible. My nana was a particularly fashion-oriented woman (one who took a good 45 minutes to get ready to go downstairs to eat in her nursing home) so I couldn’t help but smile when I saw these dresses walking down the runway.
How you can rock it: If you want my advice, I think this print would work best with a dress rather than a structured jacket, in order to avoid it looking too old. Also, a pencil skirt similar to the dress on the right would work great for a “Mad Men” look.
4. Copper Tones
Metallic colours often come into play when they sky turns grey. Silver and gold are often the stars of the show, but copper is making an appearance this year! I just love the rustic, cozy look it gives any outfit.
How you can rock it: Next time you’re shopping for accessories, pick up some copper jewelry up to add to your collection. I love those embellished headbands and copper looks great with any hair colour.
5. SLEEK BLACKS
The reason people say something “is the new black” is because black has been, and will always be the most on trend colour. It’s a fact. I have a dear friend who actually has a book on the evolution of the Little Black Dress, that’s how important it is.
How you can rock it: When in doubt, go black. Black with sleek lines can be so sexy while staying covered up at the same time.
I am very glad that Badgley Mishcka has finally deemed my love of plaid respectable. Any designer who loves plaid has my vote and I will definitely be trying these trends this fall.
