MUSIC IS A UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE

Social media is extremely popular amongst our generation, as is becoming close with people that you meet on social media. People from all over the world can bond over liking the same TV shows, movies, books, bands, and so much more. For me, it’s a band that brought me to my closest friends. I mean this in the least cheesiest way possible, but The Vamps have actually changed my life. The Vamps are a British acoustic indie/pop band (well their old music and covers are acoustic indie/pop anyway, but that’s a completely different story) that started out on YouTube.

I was on the train from London to Birmingham the other week and had a lot of time to really think about how The Vamps have had such an effect on my life, that’s actually where I came up with the concept of this article. I have friends all over the world now because of The Vamps, and I’ve even been lucky enough to meet some of them. The first friend I met in person was Kim, as in Kim Pena who also writes for Aura 32, and that was just a little over a year ago in LA at a meet up that The Vamps were having. Since then, we’ve become so much closer and I honestly don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have her in my life. Kim has had so much influence on my life in the past year (from giving me my dog when her dogs had puppies to encouraging me to apply for a position at Aura 32) and it’s so strange to think that none of that would’ve happened if it weren’t for The Vamps. Aside from Kim, I have my main group of friends that I have a group chat with who I’ve met through The Vamps, all of which are from the UK (15 from England, 2 from Wales). I am now visiting them in England for the second time this year, which is extremely crazy considering going to England is something I’ve wanted to do since I was little and it’s now been made possible. I have so many other friends that I’ve made through The Vamps as well as friends that I’ve made queuing up for gigs for other bands and things like that, too many to name, and they are some of the most genuine and caring people I know. I hate the stereotype that “internet friends aren’t real friends” because that is completely false, and speaking from personal experience, most of my internet friends have been better friends to me than some of the people that I’ve gone to school with for years.

My life would be extremely different than it is now if it weren’t for The Vamps and I’ll be forever grateful to them for having the impact that they’ve had and introducing me to some of the best people in my life. It’s truly amazing to see how much influence music can have on people and how it brings them together.
