As a high school student, my life is pretty hectic. Most teenagers have frantic schedules that keep them booked in two places at once. So when it comes time for the weekend, I like to spend time with friends, be productive, and relax. However, it’s hard to align your schedule with a friend’s; you might have some free time on Saturday, but your BFF needs to finish an English project. While free time is hard to come by, it can certainly be rejuvenating if you spend it well.
One of my favorite activities is going to concerts. I live for the adrenaline that pumps through my body during an energy-filled, loud, crowded show. I’ve never been to a concert alone; I have always gone with friends from school, or friends I’ve made through my years of going to shows in New York City.
I've had so many fond memories going to concerts. This summer, however, I shared an experience with a friend that won't be soon forgotten. In August, we got to see Haim soundcheck right under the Brooklyn Bridge. Afterwards, we were able to stay and chat with the band and take pictures. I couldn't imagine having that experience with anyone else but my best friend.
It’s a beautiful thing to be able to share the concert experience with someone: being sweaty, emotional, and completely focused on the present, all while having a good friend right by your side. Whether you’re singing along to a song at the Barclays Center, or navigating a packed crowd at the Bowery Ballroom, going to a concert is a surefire way to create memories with a friend or two that will last you your life.
