DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: IT SPROUTS FROM A CULTURE

Domestic violence is an alarming issue all over the world as it is often under the radar, and the subject is made taboo, therefore making it unable to be discussed properly. But where does such behavior sprout from? Well, one can say it sprouts from anger - but I say it sprouts from anger generated by our culture and gender stereotypes.
This is done by diminishing women through various ways such as using the female anatomy as a vulgar derogatory term, meaning "weak" or "coward" or even calling someone else "a girl" as an insult - as little boys tend to often do. This is where the problem lies; those children are not being told that it's not ok to use "girl" as an insult but the girls are also told that "boys will be boys”. Boys will be boys...even when they beat their partners? Are women enduring this meant to tolerate unjustified violence? Is anyone meant to tolerate ANY violence?

I think the answer is very clear; no one deserves to be beaten for whatever reason as it completely defies human rights. This is the mindset that we as humans should have. I may appear like a lunatic, dreaming of some ideal utopian world; but change starts anywhere, and that somewhere can be with domestic violence. Raise your children with the right mindset, educate the people around you and make a change.
