This is a very exciting issue of “Every Day Haute," and I will tell you why! The purpose of this column is to be able to have high fashion taste without the accompanying price tag. However, this week’s designer has a solution to this age-old problem. Prabal Gurung, whose garments have been seen on Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence, and the Duchess of Cambridge, has partnered up with Target and has designed a line with the store. But, since we all don’t have Target (sigh), I thought we would go into more detail of this up-and-comers looks from his catwalk.
1. CROP-TOP COMBO
Ah, the crop-top, the trendiest of trends. Here we see a crop-top that is able to go beyond summer and outdoor concerts. The addition of a high waisted skirt dresses it up a bit, making the thin peek-a-boo of skin (or an under shirt) more versatile.
How you can rock it: Next time you’re shopping for a new dress for nights out, opt for a crop top combo instead! A skirt with a matching top works just as well as a LBD, I’d say about a couple of inches for a skin gap between garments is appropriate (once again, more of an evening look). Or, you can wear a bodysuit or undershirt instead of the skin gap. I know that Le Chateau sells some sets similar to these.
2. LEATHER DETAILING
Am I the only one that daydreams about Sandy’s entire leather suit from Grease on a regular basis? Unfortunately, not a lot of our every day duties call for a leather jumpsuit, but Gurung features a lot of leather in subtle ways.
How you can rock it: Look for little hints of leather while shopping, like the belt on the left or the line featured on the other dresses. I’m also a huge fan of leather jackets, solely because of their versatility!
3. GEOMETRICAL PRINTS
How many times have you heard “colour blocking” in the past year? In order to be original, we will see this trend used as more geometrical than blocking. It can be done many ways, on many different garments, making it the most versatile trend on this list!
How you can rock it: Next time you’re looking for a blouse with flowers on it, switch it up with a geometrical print! Like I said, this trend can be seen from day to night easily.
4. Metallics
These photos show how the look can be worn as a jacket, dress, or pants, but the metallic colour pallet makes it more of an evening trend.
How you can rock it: this can be worn as a complete look or as simple as accessories or even on one’s nails. I’m sure you will all channel this futuristic trend to whatever suits you best!
5. TWEED
What I really love about these looks are how subtle the tweed looks, giving it more the allusion of tweed than the actual fabric. I am in LOVE!
How you can rock it: Less it more with this look. Even on the dress in the middle, black detailing breaks up the “tweed”. I personally love the tweed skirt on the right, and will definitely be channeling that some time soon!
Well, for those of you who have a local Target, the search for Gurung’s looks just got a lot easier! As for those less fortunate, take these tips and you too will be rocking this designers looks!
