If there is one thing that makes Paradise Fears stand out from the rest, it is the famous “Sanctuary Speech”. Originally from South Dakota, the band has traveled all over the world sharing their incredible talents and expressing their undying love for the fans and for what they do. They remind the PF family that no matter who you are, you are forgiven and cared for. “That’s the thing with music: when it hits, you feel no pain”.
The band consists of Sam Miller (23, lead vocals), Cole Andre (23, vocals and guitar), Jordan Merrigan (25, guitar), Michael Walker (23, vocals and keyboard), and Marcus Sand (23, bass guitar) who formed the band together in high school. Since then, they have captured the hearts of many with their kindness, humor, and incredible talent.
I have been a fan for almost two years, and since then, I have seen them live about five or six times, including the house shows they have performed at. My favorite part of their performance is, of course, Sanctuary Speech. The first time I saw them live, I didn’t know the words. At the most recent show I attended, I noticed that every person in the crowd knew the words. Sam did not continue the speech. He lifted his microphone in the air, and we all sang along.
The speech is an incredible explanation to the fans that no matter who they are, and no matter what their story is, they will always have friends, family, and Paradise Fears. When the song is performed, it almost feels like Sam is having a personal conversation to each individual fan in the crowd who feels worthless or upset. It is a comfort to hear the words that help the fans remember that they have a voice and that they are worth something.
Paradise Fears has shared their love and incredible talents with loads of people, as well as helped and comforted many. They have reminded us that things will be okay, as long as we find our own sanctuary, and to me, that is exactly what this band is.
