Yes, it’s true, we can’t all be J-Lo, and unfortunately we can’t all have Blake Lively’s amazing wardrobe either, no matter how hard we wish and hope. It’s not all bad news though, since we can take note from one of these two ladies’ favourite designers, Zuhair Murad, and find a way to incorporate his looks into our just as glamorous lives.
Known for his stunning gowns with a futuristic, sexy feel as well as clean lines, Murad is a name often dropped by the most A-list celebs in the most prestigious of red carpets (anywhere from the Met Gala to the VMAs). This label’s most recent Haute Couture collection is truly a site of wonder. Now, let’s look through some of this show’s top trends and see how all of us can incorporate these into our daily, stylish lives.
This catwalk was filled with a more severe shoulder, adding a bit of fierceness to the look. It is seen in all ways above, whether it is a gown (left), a micro-mini (middle), or a blazer (right). With sharper edges for a more geometrical feel, this is the re-invention of the 80s classic: shoulder pads.
How you can rock it: Try a more structured blazer with a bit of padding in the shoulders. A good blouse (either long, or short sleeve) with a more structured top will also do just as well. Be cautious though, make sure the padding goes out more than up, in order to avoid looking bulkier than you are around the shoulders!
A sexy trend, laser cutting on garments can show anything from a little to a lot of skin. It can be done as a small amount of decoration, like the jumpsuit on the left, or a lot more of a focal point, such as the middle and right gowns.
How you can rock it: Similar to the runway, this trend can be taken any way. A skirt with a laser cut on the hem is perfect for a day/night look. However, save the more severe laser cuts for the night, and an event to which it is appropriate.
Futuristic prints are definitely a trend that we will be seeing a lot of these coming fashion seasons. I especially like this print because it stays true to Murad’s future feel, but also has a bit of a 90s throwback to it (reminds me of the screen saver we all once had on our PCs, just me? Ok.)
How you can rock it: Try one of these more daring prints on your next night on the town. With the black back colouring, this makes it a bit more of an evening trend, but nothing is wrong with working this during the day in any way possible (shirt, skirt, or accessories)!
A cape seems a bit old school to the blind eye, but the incorporation of that in these looks is flawless! It can be a literal cape, such as the look on the left, cape inspired (middle), or very draped, simple, and cape inspired cut (right). This technique gives off an effortlessly elegant look and is a very simple upgrade.
How you can rock it: If you’re shopping for a fall coat, look for a cape inspired jacket! If you’d like to do the work the trend in a simpler way, belt a big scarf to form a cardigan, or a looser dress will look just as fabulous belted!
Not a new trend in anyway, but Murad shows three different ways to combine the timeless colour combo. It may also be feared to be a little duller, but by adding some of the trends we’ve already seen (such as the laser cutting on the left, the strong shoulders in the middle, and a cape-like draping on the right), it adds up to some seriously stylish looks!
How you can rock it: You’re probably rolling your eyes whilst reading this, me telling you how to wear black and white, but let’s talk about it anyway, shall we? With your next black and white combo, whatever it is, don’t be too concerned about adding a pop of colour in, let the timeless duo speak for itself!
I’ll be the first to admit that I do not expect a call from Zuhair himself asking me to wear one of his creations (I’m pretty sure he has Beyoncé and Taylor Schilling for that), any time soon. But, with a few notes and research, all of us can work the Murad runway each and every day.
