I’d like to share with all of you my latest fashion obsession: Alice + Olivia by Stacy Bendet. I first saw this label on reviews of this year’s New York Fashion Week, and instantly fell in love. Let’s go through some of my favourite looks from this New York label so we can all look like fifth avenue socialites!
1. FAUX FUR
When I think of fur coats, I think of the highest glamour possible. Faux fur is not just more socially conscious (a huge factor for why people do faux), it’s also better for your wallet as well.
How you can rock it: This collection shows many different ways to rock the fur, so whatever suits you best! I personally love the look of a faux fur vest (I believe Forever 21 sells them), with a long sleeve shirt and jeans.
2. BRALETTES
Can we all just have a quick round of applause for bralettes? Honestly, how comfy are they? This is a common trend in summer with a high waisted skirt, but for the colder months, it can be altered to fit the dropping temperature.
How you can rock it: As seen above, you can wear one with high coverage under a sheer blouse depending on your comfort level as well as what your dressing for. Personally, I love wearing my lacy bralette from Aritzia with slouchy tops, to add a peak of colour and texture to the look.
3. EMBELLISHMENTS
First of all, can we please talk about how outstanding these embellishments are? Embellishments take a look to a whole new level, and are used by many designers, but I particularly like how this label have put it in so effortlessly with their esthetic.
How you can rock it: Embellishments on clothes can be a pain in the laundry, and not to mention brings up the price on the garment. Another cheaper (and easier) way to ass this texture is by wearing a beaded headband, or a cool collar necklace.
4. CUTOUTS
I just love how tasteful these cutouts are! Whether it is a cut out in the back (middle), or the tiniest slits (left and right), it adds a new focus on a simple dress.
How you can rock it: Next time you’re looking for a LBD (aka Little Black Dress), search for one with some little cutouts like these. Since this is a popular trend, it shouldn’t be too hard to find for a more frugal price!
5. JEWEL TONES
How you can rock it: Winter is the time for darker colours, so why not step away from the black and grey and embrace a more jewel-toned outfit? American Eagle always brings in amazingly deep colours come fall and winter.
Sitting here typing away in suburban Canada, I long for the day I will be able to walk the streets of New York. But, until then, I will have be able to embrace my inner Serena and Blair* by bringing the Upper East Side into my closet!
*If you don’t understand this reference, I highly suggest that you grab a blanket, go onto Netflix, and watch the entire series of Gossip Girl. Trust me, you’ll be done in two days. Max.
