EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT IN THE END: WEEZER IS BACK

“I'm letting all of these feelings out even if it means I fail, ‘cause this is what I was meant to do and you can't put that on sale.”

These words, however simple they may seem, exemplify what I think it means to be a true artist. Although creativity can be something to monetarily gain from, it should first and foremost be valued as a communicative outlet. If you agree with me on that and have not yet heard of the band Weezer, I am shaking my head in disapproval and urging you to go listen to them right this instant.

The lyrics above are featured in the single “Back To The Shack” from Weezer’s ninth sudio album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End (EWBAITE). Your local alternative rock radio station has probably played this song since its release on July 22nd. At first listen, the sound might come off a bit harder than what you’re used to.

On the contrary, Weezer’s latest record is not as heavy as some of their past works. This can be either good or bad depending on the listener. If you are new to the face of power pop, EWBAITE should be an intriguing listen from beginning to end. To this day, there is ongoing disparagement of the albums that succeeded their first two. Weezer’s debut, The Blue Album (1994) and Pinkerton (1996), are put on a pedestal and frequently deemed as classics.

I wish I could be one of the lucky ones who experienced those records when they first came out, but that is not the case. Even though I was only six years old at the time, I’ll always remember the utter happiness that I felt from watching the 2005 hit “Beverly Hills” music video on MTV and singing along. My love of both Weezer's older and more recent discography has turned me into a huge fan. Therefore, I was beyond ecstatic when they announced that they were releasing a new album this fall. Some of my favorite songs are "Ain't Got Nobody", "Lonely Girl", and "Da Vinci", just to name a few. It would take me an eternity to describe why I love this record, so instead I'm just going to tell you to check it out for yourself. Rock on!!!
