THE 1975: WORTH THE M.O.N.E.Y

Last Sunday, I had the pleasure to attend the 1975’s concert. The lack of urgency to get there as early as possible took a great turnaround, as we did not expect the queue to be as gigantic as it was, with people looking like ants waiting for some kind of signal, one behind the other. Despite being amidst a crowd of screaming leather-wearing fan-girls, queuing with my friends was more enjoyable than suspected, as we got to catch up and talk about how excited we were to see the band perform.

As the 7pm mark came, the queue suddenly transformed itself into an outrageous mob, pushing and shoving to get as close to the doors as possible (as if the doors had more charisma than the actual band members). It felt like they were vacuuming everyone in as the frantic scanning of tickets could be heard more clearly and we finally approached the doors of the venue, the Ancienne Belgique.

But how was the show? It was insane. People were dancing like they were in some kind of melodious trance, and I’m sure many lost their voice due to the ceaseless singing. Lighters and mobile phone flashlights were raised in the air during the more temperate songs, which looked like thousands of stars were shimmering in the darkness of the sweaty, warm room. Matt Healy’s performance was a true show-stopper, and he engaged the audience as much as possible making the experience very enjoyable. But a great concert is not complete without a great solo, which was exactly what the song “Pressure” had; a clear, amazing saxophone performance which surprised everyone in the greatest manner.

Overall the show was a great success and was a transporting experience that I luckily got to appreciate with my closest friends. Next time the 1975 come near your city, it is definitely worth it to go see them!
