There are lots of ways to pass time: Do your homework. Read a book. Watch something on Netflix. Go for a jog. Make art. We as humans are completely capable of doing all of these things in isolation. On the contrary, our lives are made more enjoyable when we are in good company.When I think of a best friend, I think of a person to whom I can tell anything. I think of someone I can text at any moment of any day, of someone whose attention I always have, undivided. I think of someone who I can be myself around, 24/7.

THE 1975: WORTH THE M.O.N.E.Y

Last Sunday, I had the pleasure to attend the 1975’s concert. The lack of urgency to get there as early as possible took a great turnaround, as we did not expect the queue to be as gigantic as it was, with people looking like ants waiting for some kind of signal, one behind the other. Despite being amidst a crowd of screaming leather-wearing fan-girls, queuing with my friends was more enjoyable than suspected, as we got to catch up and talk about how excited we were to see the band perform.

As the 7pm mark came, the queue suddenly transformed itself into an outrageous mob, pushing and shoving to get as close to the doors as possible (as if the doors had more charisma than the actual band members). It felt like they were vacuuming everyone in as the frantic scanning of tickets could be heard more clearly and we finally approached the doors of the venue, the Ancienne Belgique.

LET'S TALK BRATPOP: AN INTERVIEW WITH HOLYCHILD

Philadelphia went crazy for HOLYCHILD two Fridays ago, when they opened for Mø on her North American tour.

The LA-based duo, made up of Liz Nistico and Louie Diller, lit up Union Transfer’s stage with their dancing, catchy brat-pop tunes, and a much-loved cover of Destiny Child’s “Say My Name.” 

After their set, I had the opportunity to sit down with Liz and Louie, to talk about what brat-pop is, their upcoming album release, and their many inspirations.

MØ TAKES PHILLY BY STORM

Strobe lights flashed, the music crescendoed, and people migrated back toward the front of the room. Band members took the stage slowly, one by one, and the crowd cheered even louder. 

Such was the anticipation of MØ.

REAL ESTATE DELIGHTS HOMETOWN WITH PACKED SHOW

Real Estate, an indie rock quintet with a majority of its members hailing from Ridgewood, New Jersey, played a homecoming show at Terminal 5 in Manhattan on Thursday, October 2 in support of their third and latest album, Atlas. The group, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Martin Courtney, bassist Alex Bleeker, keyboardist Matt Kallman, guitarist Matt Mondanile, and drummer Jackson Pollis contracted friends Regal Degal, Peaking Lights, and DJ Tom Scharpling to help them start off the special night. 

MUSIC MIDTOWN

Nothing warms my heart quite like thousands of sweaty people dancing in the hot sun to their favorite bands does. Music festivals have become a staple in the cultures of all genres of music. Fresh off of the coattails of Music Midtown in Atlanta, I have had my annual dosage of outdoor jams. Midtown boasted a monstrous lineup with the likes of John Mayer, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, RUN DMC, Iggy Azalea, Banks, Twenty One Pilots, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Eminem, just to name a few. The beautiful end-of-summer weather that dawned Piedmont Park last weekend set the tone for the amazing weekend that lied before us. 

YOU ME AT SIX CONCERT REVIEW

I recently saw You Me At Six live in Pomona and they were absolutely amazing; they definitely give a vibrant performance that can automatically lift up your mood. 

YOUNG GUNS CONCERT REVIEW

There truly aren't enough words in the world to describe how amazing the adrenaline rush is when you finally see a band perform that you've been looking forward to seeing for ages. That's the exact feeling I got when I had the pleasure of seeing Young Guns, an alternative rock band from London. They were 1 of 3 opening acts for You Me At Six, another British band. I'd been introduced to them around summer of last year and immediately fell in love with their music. They sounded as amazing live as they do on their studio version songs. It's always so great when bands sound as good in concert as they do on their recorded tracks. 

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST: THE INTERMISSION PROJECT

If you’re looking for music that has a cool, acoustic-folk kind of sound, I can guarantee that a band called The Intermission Project is for you. The band consists of three members named Jim, Alex, and Charlie who are from the UK. To give a little background on the band, according to their website, Jim and Alex were friends since primary school and then met again in college because of their passion for music. They then added Charlie, who is the drummer, and started the band. 

PLAYLIST: LOVE

Recently I found myself getting lucky in the love department and scored myself a wonderful boyfriend. So as the excited teenage girl I am I decided to create a playlist with a wide spread of songs that make me think of that special someone. Have a listen when you’re thinking about your crush, spending time with your fave, or just want some chilled songs.

GROUPLOVE'IN

“Whatever you do, just make sure you’re being creative and doing sh*t with your hands!”, Grouplove frontrunner Hannah Hooper said to a crowd of young adults as they listened on Tuesday, September 2nd at the Masquerade Music Park in Atlanta, Georgia. Grouplove is an alternative rock band based out of sunny California that reps hippie vibes and a message to push all of their fans to keep art alive. Consisting of lead vocals and guitar by Christian Zucconi, vocals and keyboard by Hannah Hooper, bass guitar by Daniel Gleason, guitar by Andrew Wessen, and drums by Ryan Rabin, this band is always sure to put on a performance that will leave your ears buzzing for days post performance.

SANCTUARY SPEECH

If there is one thing that makes Paradise Fears stand out from the rest, it is the famous “Sanctuary Speech”. Originally from South Dakota, the band has traveled all over the world sharing their incredible talents and expressing their undying love for the fans and for what they do. They remind the PF family that no matter who you are, you are forgiven and cared for. “That’s the thing with music: when it hits, you feel no pain”. 

SIR SLY CONCERT REVIEW

Have you ever seen a lead singer head bang so hard that you just admire the pace, stamina, and strength the person has? Because this past Saturday night, I stood in awe as I watched Landon Jacobs from Sir Sly head bang and dance on a stage much too small for him. 

Sir Sly are a pop indie band from Los Angeles, California who came onto the music scene two years ago. The band consists of five members: Landon Jacobs, Hayden Coplen, Jason Suwito, Philippe Gutierrez, and Chase Kensrue.

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST: SCOTT HELMAN

There are no words to describe just how amazing the guy who makes this music is. NO WORDS. I found out a few weeks ago and I’m already obsessed with his music. I don’t usually rave about musicians, but Scott Helman blew me away when I heard his original songs. His music is so raw and deep that it feels like a flesh wound (I’m saying this with a positive connotation just wait for it) that you never want to heal because the burn is too good (told you).

We’re friends right? If you’re taking the time to read this, then I consider us friends. And as friends, I’ll give you a free pass to know a little bit about my obsessive One Direction phase. Now, let me establish that I still really do enjoy One Direction’s music and them as people, but I am nowhere near the level of extreme craziness that I was my freshman and sophomore year of high school. But my music taste changes as much as the trends do, so I thought I’d tell you a little bit about a transition in music taste that many others have had as well.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of the band The 1975. And for all of you that have been living under a rock, you probably listen to Top 40 hits radio stations. Most likely, you’ve heard of their song “Chocolate” which is most definitely, not about chocolate. But there is a reason that I’m bringing up two music groups that are from completely different genres, they have more in common than you think.
